'Vice' Makes National Board of Review's Top 10; PTA Wins Best Adapted Screenplay

Looks like the awards race for 2014 is officially underway, with The National Board of Review recognizing its favorite films of the year today. And guess who made the cut.

The Top 10 Motion Pictures of 2014 as voted by The National Board of Review, in alphabetical order, are....

American Sniper, directed by Clint Eastwood

Birdman, directed by Alejandro G. I��rritu 

Boyhood, directed by Richard Linklater

Fury, directed by David Ayer

Gone Girl, directed by David Fincher

The Imitation Game, directed by Morten Tyldum

Inherent Vice, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson

The Lego Movie, directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller

Nightcrawler, directed by Dan Gilroy

Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie 

To make the good news even sweeter, PTA also scored an award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work bringing Thomas Pynchon's book to the screen. PTA is no stranger to NBR recognition in the past, with both Boogie Nights and Magnolia getting some love in their respective years.

In other news, Josh Brolin sat down for a 40 minute interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air in support of Inherent Vice. The interview opens with an audio clip of one of Brolin's scenes in the movie, as well as other tiny details of the film sprinkled throughout, so, as always, listen at your own discretion.

What's more, full scans of the promotional booklet distributed at Vice's NYFF and AFi Fest premiere have found their way online, so we'll post them for you here.

70mm Screenings For Inherent Vice Pop Up On The Arclight Webpage

We had been hearing whispers here and there that this might happen, but something happened this morning that makes it one step closer to reality. That's right. Inherent Vice in 70mm.

The website for The Arclight in Hollywood has listings for Vice to be shown in 70mm starting on the first day of the film's limited release, next Friday, in Hollywood. We don't know how long this 70mm engagement will run, or which other 70mm-capable theatres it will expand to, and we have no other confirmation other than that one webpage. We will have a new post with new information if/when it is made available. 

Things could be getting really interesting.

UPDATE: The official Arclight Twitter account has verified that these 70mm screenings are very real and they will be shown after 12/12 as well. (Thanks, Gabriel)

(Side-note for tech-nerds like us: Because Vice was shot on 35mm, this engagement would involve a 70mm 'blow-up', rather than what PTA did with The Master, which shot mostly on 65mm so that the projection was true 70mm. Curious to see the textural differences between the two.)

WATCH: Martin Short Promotes Inherent Vice on The Tonight Show

Martin Short stopped by and paid a visit to Jimmy Fallon at The Tonight Show last night in support of his latest project, a little movie called Inherent Vice. Above is an excerpt of that interview, wherein Short discusses being typecast as a coke-addled dentist and then presents a small scene from the movie.

As some of you may have heard, half of C&RV was able to attend the screening of Inherent Vice held at Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles last night. It was a remarkable experience, with a full write-up on the way. Suffice it to say, you guys are in for something pretty damn cool with this flick. WB Rolls Out Another New Banner For Ad Inherent Vice

Just slightly over a week after the powers that be at Warner Bros rolled out their first, extremely bitching banner advertisement for Inherent Vice, a new one has dropped. 

It looks like they're pushing for a Thanksgiving-themed (albeit pizza-slinging) Last Supper type deal, capturing the spirit of this shot from earlier trailers:

If new banners keep poppin' up every couple weeks looking as rad as these two have, we could be very okay with it.
