A Punk Band vs. some evil Nazi's; a documentary about the making of one of the best Horror Anthologies ever made; one of Fulci's last, and most bizarre movies; a road trip from Hell; a new Criterion Collection release; and a Bava classic from Arrow Video... This is just the kind of week that we love when it comes to physical media!
So be sure to click the pics to order yourself some flicks!
"After witnessing a shocking crime, a young rock band is unexpectedly thrust into a life-or-death battle to escape the clutches of a diabolical club owner (Patrick Stewart) and his ruthless henchmen in this white-knuckle thriller."
Green Room is one of our favorite movies of 2016. It's intense, gory, and it kept us on the edge of our seats throughout. We'll definitely be revisiting this one on Blu-ray.
"In 1982, Author Stephen King, and Director George A. Romero collaborated on a feature-film tribute to the controversial EC comics of the 1950s. Told through five jolting tales of terror, CREEPSHOW has become a celebrated horror classic over the past three decades. With an all-star cast, and featuring groundbreaking special effects by genre legend Tom Savini, CREEPSHOW stands as a horrific and hilarious tribute to the stories that helped influence (and corrupt) a generation of writers and filmmakers. Now the tales behind the creation of this chilling masterpiece can finally be told!"
We love us a good Horror Documentary, and Just Desserts looks like it's going to be a really good one. Synapse may not release as much as some of the other specialty Horror labels do, but their releases are always high quality.
Definitely checking this one out.
"The sun drenched days of summer turn dark and ominous for hitchhiking duo Jack and Vronique when they become inexplicably entangled with a mysterious married couple and a local road kill collector in rural France."
While Road Games may not be as disturbing as many of the other recent, great French Horror films are, and it's certainly nowhere near as bloody and violent, it brings an effective Hitchcockian flavor to the game that was at least refreshing and compelling.
You can stream this one for free on Netflix, but it would still be a worthwhile pick-up on Blu-ray.
"Cat in the Brain is a psychological masterpiece in the tradition of such cinematic classics as Psycho, Strait-jacket, Eraserhead and Fellini's 8 1/2. Acclaimed Italian horror maestro Lucio Fulci, director of Zombie and The Beyond, stars in this blood-soaked epic as a director being driven insane by his own movies. Fulci is thrust into an ultra-violent nightmare of death and depravity where murder and madness consume his sanity in a vortex of violence."
One of Fulci's final films, Cat in the Brain is an odd one in that it's mostly made up of footage from his older releases, making it a gory, crazy, film-within-a-film type of experience. It's a different kind of movie to be sure, but it's plenty sleazy and well worth adding to any Fulci Collection.
It's on our list.
"Newly restored from the original camera negative and presented here in its original, uncut Italian form, this dual-format release allows fans to see Blood and Black Lace afresh and offers newcomers the ideal introduction to a major piece of cult filmmaking."
One of Mario Bava's best movies, and one of the earliest and best Gialli ever made, Blood and Black Lace is finally coming to North American Blu-ray thanks to Arrow Video. We dying to see what Arrow did with this movie, and more importantly, to experience this fantastic Giallo once again.
We've been waiting for this one since January (it's release was delayed twice due to rights issues), and we're happy that we can finally own it.
- The release of Allegiant will no doubt thrill anyone who loves the Insurgent series.
- Criterion's release of Carnival of Souls is a Must Own for lovers of classic Horror flicks.
- Slasher was a decent-enough Canadian TV show, but it's streaming on Netflix, so watching it there is probably the best if you're a subscriber.
- On the DVD front, 13 Cameras and Model Hunger are two smaller flicks that look promising.
- And everything else, as always, is a crap-shoot.
